Method
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
- Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until well coated.
- Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan using a buttered spatula or wax paper.
- In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the white, blue, and red candy melts with 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable shortening each. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
- Drizzle the melted candy colors over the Rice Krispie treats in a random pattern to resemble fireworks.
- Immediately sprinkle with star sprinkles before the candy sets.
- Let the treats cool completely until the candy coating is firm. Cut into squares.
Notes
For best results, use fresh marshmallows. You can also add a drop of red and blue food coloring to the white candy melts for more vibrant colors.
